Tropical Storm 12 - A Modern Romeo And Juliet Love Story
Juliet and Janie walked arm in arm along the street, on the short route to the beach. Both were in a happy and excited mood; this was the big day they had been planning for two months now, and in less than three hours' time, the party was due to get under way.
Janie was the more obviously exuberant, though. She wanted to shout out that Romeo was "so gorgeous", but she knew he would hear even from that distance on a hot, still and quiet afternoon; so she just said loudly to Juliet:
"That guy just does something to me. Whenever I get near him, I just want to.......grab him."
Juliet laughed quietly as best as she could, but was troubled by the feelings she herself had felt when Romeo had greeted her. As before, his touch had rushed like a tidal wave through her body from her hand, soon to meet two other waves coming in opposite directions from his kisses to each of her cheeks.
"What about you, Jules?" Janie enquired, looking directly at Juliet's eyes, open mouthed with the anticipation of her reply. "Doesn't he do something to you? When he kissed your cheeks? Didn't you just want to melt in his arms?"
Juliet forced a laugh again, and she replied; "No, of course not." But her evasive eyes showed to Janie that there was something more behind Juliet's words.
Janie shook Juliet's arm, and then stood in front of her to block her walking any further.
Janie looked long and hard into her friend's eyes:
"Juliet, you do like him too, don't you?"
"Of course I like him. He's a nice person," Juliet replied.
"Juliet," Janie pressed. "I can tell. You want him too, don' you."
Janie broke away excitedly to Juliet's side again, and locked her arm in hers.
"No, I don't 'want' him," Juliet insisted, "but I do like him. He's a nice guy."
"He's more than nice, Juliet. He's a handsome hunk."
Janie was laughing happily. Despite her desire for Romeo, she felt no jealousy, just amusement. She put her arm around Juliet's waist as they walked along, and Juliet did the same to her.
"Juliet," Janie giggled. "Don't you want to seduce him? It's your birthday. What a day to do it!"
Juliet pushed her to one side playfully: "Janie, don't. I don't think of him like that."
"Really?" Janie said, as they resumed their arm around waists positions. "I can't believe that. I think of it like that all the time."
"Don't worry, Juliet," Janie assured. "You're my best friend, and friends share."
"Oh, Janie. You're so funny," Juliet giggled.
"Who said anything about being funny?" said Janie, with an exaggerated grin on her face. "You're my number one friend. No hunky guy will ever spoil that."
Juliet looked directly into Janie's eyes; she was a true friend, and had been for many years. She seemed closer than ever now, and Juliet hugged her close as they walked onto the beach. It looked like everything was just about prepared for the party already.
