Tropical Storm 8 - A Modern Romeo And Juliet Love Story

Luke sat down as before under the coconut palm. Juliet stood next to him for a moment, looking out to sea to find Janie. Her closest friend was rollicking freely, clinging to the back of Romeo's neck like a monkey, and then falling back into the sea.

Knowing that Janie was very happy, Juliet sat next to Luke, then stretched out on the sand with her head on his lap. In a few moments, she was asleep.

It was at least half an hour later, but just a second to Juliet, when the returning swimmers caused Luke to wake her. She woke with a start, but was quickly refreshed enough to thank Luke for letting her use him as a pillow.

Juliet sat up to see Janie running up the beach.

"Here's sexy Janie", Luke laughed, waving. Juliet waved too, watching her friend closely and thinking that, somehow, Janie had changed since she had met Romeo. Or was it, maybe, that Juliet had changed, feeling and observing things that had somehow been beyond her before?

Romeo and Rosie strolled at a more leisurely pace behind Janie. Juliet did watch Romeo discreetly; and Janie was right, he was handsome. But her first concern was for her closest friend, now nearing them, dripping seawater and enthusiasm in a trail along the sand.

"Oh, that was so good you guys. You should have come in," Janie bubbled. She spotted her jeans hanging on the branch.

"Aah thanks," she said, not knowing if it were Luke or Juliet who had hung them.

"I thought they may be easier to get on if they dried a bit," Juliet told her, standing to check the jeans. They were still totally drenched.

She took the jeans and offered them to Janie.

"You must put these on," Juliet told her. "Your Dad comes along the beach sometimes."

Now the swim was over, Janie was concerned whether her father, friend or neighbour, would see her. By the time Romeo and Rosie were near, Janie was trying to pull up her jeans, with Juliet and Luke looking on and laughing.

Rosie joined Janie and the others while Romeo took a short diversion to collect his discarded clothes.

"Rosie, your cousin's gorgeous," Janie enthused, managing to keep it to a whisper. "You're so lucky having him sleeping in your house. How old is he?"

Rosie smiled; she was proud of her cousin from the US. He had made her feel more important than before.

"He's 24," she replied.

"Do you sleep in the same room?" Janie asked, her imagination running wild.

"No," Rosie responded shyly. "Of course not."

"Oh I would," Janie burst out. "Cousin or no cousin."

Juliet, now sitting on the sand again, slapped Janie on the leg, having been distracted, by Janie's remark, from watching Romeo pick up his t-shirt and pants and start walking across to them.
